112 knives were seized by Gardaí in the Louth-Cavan-Monaghan division last year while 1,205 were seized over the last ten years. New figures show that number is a reduction on the 2023 figure of 135 and the 2022 figure of 211.
Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan says that the increased level of seizures in recent years is due to proactive policing. Despite this, Aontú leader Peadar Toibin believes the number of knives seized right across the country is an indication that more people are carrying knives.
