The head of a local domestic violence service says everyone needs to play their part in ensuring society is safe for everyone.

The disappearance and murder of Sarah Everard in London has prompted discussions around the treatment of women in Ireland.

People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith today said the way women are treated needs to change.

Locally, Siobhán McKenna from Tearmann in Cavan and Monaghan says society as a whole needs to change to end discrimination, sexualisation and violence against women.

She says families, communities and wider society all have their part to play in creating a safer environment:
