Data released to Aontú following a Parliamentary Question reveals significant regional disparities in breast cancer survival rates across Ireland.
The highest survival rates for breast cancer is in Cavan at 94% in contrast to the average countrywide figure which is 87.3%.
Aontú Senator Sarah O Reilly says while Cavan leads with the most favourable figures, Monaghan reports a survival rate of just 85.4%.
She says there is a notable 14% variation in breast cancer survival rates depending on the county patients live in, which is deeply concerning and this is borne out by the varying figures in Cavan and Monaghan.
Aontú has found a 12% difference in survival outcomes between women diagnosed in public hospitals versus private hospitals.
The local senator say women diagnosed with breast cancer in a designated cancer care centre have an 85% chance of surviving five years ,those diagnosed in other public hospitals have an 81% chance of surviving while those diagnosed in a private hospital have a 93% chance of survival.
Senator O'Reilly says it' s imperative that both geographic location and economic standing do not have an impact on whether a person lives or dies.
