Members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit made a number of detections relating to driving offences over the Bank Holiday Weekend. A number of cars were stopped at various checkpoints which were in operation across the county. Over the Bank Holiday weekend Cavan Roads Policing Unit stopped a car following an ANPR alert for no insurance. This driver had a learner permit and no insurance and the car was detained under section 41 Road Traffic Act.
According to local Gardaí, later on in the evening Cavan Roads Policing Unit stopped a car following another ANPR alert and the driver was subsequently arrested for drug driving having provided a positive oral fluid test for cocaine. Blood samples were taken and forwarded to the Medical Bureau Road Safety for further tests. Later on the same night a driver failed to stop in Cavan town having committed a number of dangerous manoeuvres on the road. According to Gardaí reports, this driver drove into Northern Ireland in an attempt to evade detection. The driver was later arrested for Dangerous Driving as he was residing in this jurisdiction. The defendant was brought to Cavan Garda Station where blood samples were taken and he appeared before Dundalk District Court yesterday morning.
