The Stormont Assembly has been recalled and will sit on Thursday. Speaker Alex Maskey says the purpose of the move is to elect a speaker and deputy speaker, and to appoint a First and Deputy First Minister.
Party whips will meet this morning to discuss arrangements for a debate. Members have until Friday to form a new executive before fresh elections are called.
The DUP is refusing to nominate ministers due to its opposition to the Northern Ireland protocol.
