Sinn Fein Councillor Gary Doherty says this is a critical project.

The upgrade of the A5-N2 road is needed to address the regional imbalance in the border and north-west.

Members of ICBAN were speaking in the Oireachtas this week to highlight the key projects that they feel need to be prioritised. Among them was the upgrade of the A5-N2 road between Derry and Ardee.

Surveys are now being carried out on preferred routes for the Monaghan section, while the Northern stretch continues to be slowed by legal challenges.

Sinn Fein Councillor in Donegal Gary Doherty says after recent meetings with Minister Nicola Mallon, they believe the project can still be delivered under the original timeline.

He says the plan is too important to gather dust.
