He was speaking in Cavan on Friday at the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party meeting.

The Taoiseach says the DUP's decision to immediately withdraw Ministers from North-South structures "creates new challenges".

The DUP leader, Jeffrey Donaldson, says Stormont won't survive if issues with the Northern Ireland protocol aren't resolved.

The North remains in the European Union single market for goods and continues to apply EU customs rules.

The vice-president of the European Commission, Maros Sefcovic, has called for compromise from all sides on implementing the Northern Ireland protocol.

Speaking at the recent Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party meeting in Co Cavan, Micheál Martin said Europe is in "solution mode" to make the protocol work for Northern Ireland:
