Today marks six years since disappearance of Jean Tighe

Deputy Smith highlighted the absolute need for Portuguese authorities to intensify their investigations into Jean's case.

Today marks six years since the disappearance of Munterconnaught woman Jean Tighe.

Jean who was 37 years of age when she was last seen disappeared from Parede, a Portuguese holiday resort, on July 13, 2020.

The Munterconnaght native was only placed on the missing persons register in 2023.

The Tighe family have not had any engagement with the Portuguese authorities since July 2025 and six years on they still don't know what happened to Jean.

Fianna Fail TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Deputy Brendan Smith has worked closely with the Tighe family over the last six years.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith said: "I've been critical of the Portuguese authorities over the years in relation to their investigations.

"I will be speaking with Minister Jim O'Callaghan again on this matter and I hope that our authroitties will raise again with their counterparts in Portugal the absolute need to intensify the investigation regarding Jean and I sincerely hope that we will have a positive outcome.

"Everyone wants to see Jean back at home in Munterconnaught with her family and her local community and that's the absolute desire of the entire community and all of us who know the Tighe family."
