A “potentially lifesaving” free training programme is being launched today by Women's Aid.
It's aimed at supporting the family and friends of people suffering domestic abuse and coercive control.
It's hoped it will transform how society understands and responds to domestic abuse.
'Jill' is a survivor - who's using only her first name - to speak publicly about her own experience.
She says proper supportive training for the people around her, could have made a huge difference.
'Jill' said: "My sister, understanding that shame keeps you trapped, and that love without judgement can be a lifeline.
"The doctor, knowing how to have the hard conversation, not just how to write a prescription.
"The Garda, understanding that going back isn't failure, it's survival," 'Jill' added.
