Listen Back: Cavan councillor voices frustrations over heating prices

A Cavan councillor has voiced his frustrations over the increase in home heating oil across the Northern Sound region.

The average price of home heating oil in Cavan is currently the highest in the country.

According to oilprices.ie, the cost of 500 litres in Cavan stands at €944.50 on average.

The online price comparison website shows Monaghan is also among the highest on average costing €929.50 for the same fill of 500 litres of home heating oil.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Brendan warned that people are "irate" and "extremely concerned" about what lies ahead.

Cllr Fay said he understands the market shock for fuel companies, despite this he believes many are being opportunistic since the war in Middle East broke out, yet it's the most vulnerable in our society who are suffering as a result of this.

He added that if the Government is serious about the people of Ireland, then it must protect Irish people through this crisis.
