Listen Back: Cavan farmer on egg prices. IFA Poultry Chair Brendan Soden said egg shortages on supermarket shelves have arisen; because producers are not getting paid enough.
The local farmer said that producers have been warning retailers; and egg packers that farmgate prices are not financially sustainable to meet growing demand.
He said that history is repeating itself; and the UK experienced this in 22/23 when shelves were left empty and rationing of eggs was introduced
