Listen Back: Dublin's O'Connell Street brought to a standstill

Dublin's O'Connell Street came to a standstill today, as a nationwide protest calling for tax on fuel to be cut converged on the capital.

Tractors, buses and Lorries blocked main roads in other towns and cities across the country also.

It was a very unfamiliar sight in Dublin city centre for on lookers as tractors, some pulling trailers and slurry tanks, rolled down O'Connell Street.

Participants in the protest were highlighting the impact rising fuel prices are having on their livelihoods.

Michael Farrelly who operates a haulage business in the region says things are very bad. He joined Ronan Gargan on the Wider and so did Cllr Shane P O'Reilly who says he believes the people of the country are sending a strong message to the government.
