Listen Back: Homeowners in Co Monaghan to face Local Property Tax increase

Homeowners in Co Monaghan to face Local Property Tax increase. Homeowners in Co Monaghan will face an increase in their Local Property Tax. Indeed, this follows a vote passed at this month's Council meeting.

Councillor Sinead Flynn expressed her "disappointment" by this decision to increase tax on the family home.

Cllr Flynn proposed a 0% increase. Moreover, this was seconded by Cllr Colm Carthy and fully supported by all Sinn Féin councillors.

"We believe families across Monaghan are already under enormous financial strain from soaring grocery bills; electricity, home heating oil, and insurance, to the recent €1,000 increase in college fees.

People are struggling to stay afloat, and this decision adds more pressure on homeowners who are already stretched to their limits. And now, they are being hit again with a further tax on the very roof over their heads.

As a result, Cllr Flynn along with her Sinn Fein colleagues are seeking to abolish local property tax entirely and strongly oppose this increase.

Cllr Flynn said she will continue to stand up for our communities and for the people of County Monaghan: Listen here on Northern Sound
