A Co. Cavan Senator is asking the Government to consider the proposed tax credit scheme from the Vintners Federation Ireland (VFI).
Aontú Senator, Sarah O'Reilly believes that it would go a long way to supporting local pubs throughout Cavan and Monaghan.
The VFI has warned that rural pubs are facing a massive threat unless the Government acts in budget 2027.
Since 2005, 2,200 pubs have closed their doors across Ireland. In recent years, closures have increased to an average of 128 pubs per year.
According to Senator O'Reilly, rural Ireland has been hit hardest of all, and that communities are losing a social anchor. She joined Ronan Gargan on the show earlier.
