Councillor Seamus Coyle says more changes must be made in order for Co Monaghan to qualify for the levels of funding that it is entitled to.
Monaghan is part of the Northern Western Regional Assembly area, however many feel that we are in the wrong assembly area and have more in common with the eastern section of the country.
EU funding is strongly linked to classification and the NWRA is proposed to be in a more developed group therefore receives less funding than those areas which are classed to be in transition or less developed.
Cllr Seamus Coyle put forward a motion calling for reclassification stating that there is "major issues" in Co Monaghan that can only be addressed through more funding.
For Monaghan to qualify for the levels of funding that we are entitled to we need to be reclassified to a less developed area.
He says a complete review is needed to ensure that the regional boundaries and classifications accurately reflect the social economic realities and what steps must be taken to achieve goals in Co Monaghan.
