Coach Paddy McAloon says over three years ago the club started with around seven girls.
Moreover, after major efforts since then to grow numbers and entice more girls to get involved; there are now up to 33 girls between the U-14 and U-16 teams. Indeed, Paddy revealed that in recent years the group has amalgamated with other clubs.
However, due growing numbers, the U-16 cohort for the first time ever in the history of Monaghan Rugby Club are going out on their own as a standalone team.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Paddy described this as "a very big thing for everyone involved."
As the team gears up to travel to Cooke RFC this Sunday to play against Ballymena, Paddy says it will be a "big day for the girls and a big day for the club."
