Cavan suffer heavy Championship Donegal defeat

Donegal made light work of Cavan to blow group 1 wide open in the All-Ireland Championship at Kingspan Breffni.

It was a tight beginning to the game with both sides going blow for blow.

Indeed, Cavan struck the first meaningful score of the game in the 16th minute, as Brian O’Connell buried the ball into the back of the Donegal net.

Caolan McGolgan and Michael Murphy got Donegal back in front; before a fine score from Dara McVeety brought the sides level once again.

Donega scored four points in a row before a goal from Finbarr Roarty right on the stroke of half-time proved to be a real sucker-punch to Gabriel Bannigan’s side.

Things didn’t improve for the Cavan side in the second-half. Despite a two-pointer from Dara McVeety, Donegal maintained their dominance in the game.

Conor O’Connell’s goal in the 62th minute stamped home this point. Donegal grabbed a third goal right at the end from Caolan McGolgan.

Donegal scoring a 3-26 to 1-13 win. The defeat makes Cavan trip to Tyrone in two week’s time all the more important.
