Monaghan County Council has passed a motion seeking the opening of the Group Home Care Centre in Carrickmacross as a matter of urgency.

The motion was raised by the County Chair Colm Carthy, and also calls for the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly to visit the site.

Fellow Sinn Fein councillor Noel Keelan said it was a "national scandal" that the centre hasn't yet opened, labelling it a "squandering" of taxpayers money that wouldn't be accepted in the private sector.

The building was constructed to cater for local people with physical and sensory disabilities but has laid empty since it was completed in 2017.
