A local TD says the community of the wider area of Ballyconnell are in shock following the news of the discovery of a woman’s body late last night.
Deputy Brendan Smith said the news of the death of the popular local woman was extremely sad and the entire community were in shock over the incident.
The local Fianna Fáil TD said he was thinking of the family as this very difficult time.
The body of the woman was discovered at her home, in a remote area near Ballyconnell, by gardaí at around 9.30pm last night.
It is understood she was stabbed several times.
A man, in his 60s, who was known to the woman, was also seriously injured in the attack and was brought to Cavan General Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
A man in his 30s was arrested at a separate location. It’s also understood that a fire had broke out at the family home at the time also which resulted in local firefighters attending the scene at around 9.30pm also.
The area remained sealed off throughout the day as a technical examination got underway of the property and the surrounding area.
The Ballinamore road in Ballyconnell was being combed this afternoon as GardaÍ search for evidence in relation to a murder investigation.
A man in his 30s has been arrested following the discovery of the body of a woman in her 50s in Kilnavart, some 5kms from the town of Ballyconnell.
