A local TD says progress on the planned he Cavan college of the future must be accelerated.
Brendan Smith raised the issue in the Dáil during a discussion on cross-border and regional education developments.
The Deputy said he is hopeful that the long awaited extension on Cathedral Road in Cavan town will move forward quickly, describing the hard work and the benefit student in the region have from the institute.
He highlighted the demand for courses and said the college plays a vital role in providing pathways into further and higher education for students across Cavan, Monaghan and surrounding counties.
In response, Minister James Lawless said he hopes to appoint a design team in the coming months and confirmed he is working to move the project forward.
