The application says the project is part of Vodafone's plan to "enhance services" to customers in the area.

An Bord Pleanala didn't accept the inspectors' report and granted permission for the mast.

Permission had been granted by Monaghan County Council but was appealed by local landowners.

Cavan County Council ruled that it wouldn't be granting permission because it would have an adverse impact on the local area.

It was claimed that a mast was needed because the areas around the land had been identified as coverage blackspots.
