The Group Home was finished in 2017, but a number of issues in relation to funding meant the HSE were unable to run the facility.

The official opening of the new group home in Carrickmacross has been a long time coming.

That's according to Minister of State for Disabilities, Anne Rabbitte, who officially opened Drummond Lodge Group Home this morning.

Minister Rabbitte was joined by local TDs and councillors in officially opening Drummond Lodge Group Home.

The facility for people with physical and sensory disabilities got the green light for construction in 2006 and was finished in 2017.

However, a number of issues in relation to funding meant the HSE were unable to run the facility.

While Minister Rabbitte acknowledged the delays, she said today was a very positive day and added that funding into the future has been secured:

Meanwhile, Carrickmacross councillor Colm Carthy praised the residents and their families for "fighting" for the facility and said they were the one who delivered on the project:

Elsewhere, local TD Matt Carthy says today's celebrations have been "soured somewhat" by the delays which hit the Group Home:

The group home can accommodate five people, and Minister Rabbitte expressed hope that a sixth person could be moved in in the future.
